Die Suhosine passt perfekt zu den ungewöhnlichen Früchten und dürfte wenig bekannt sein.
Alles an der Pflanze ist ungewöhnlich.
Die leuchtend orangefarbenen Beerchen werden überaus zahlreich gebildet. Sie schmecken leicht süßlich, fruchtig, angenehm, etwa in Richtung Honigmelone.
Die Konsistenz ist ganz skurril, nämlich knusprig, so, als wenn man Cornflakes knabbern würde!
Wichtig ist zu wissen, dass sie am alten Holz, nicht am Neuaustrieb wachsen. Dabei wieder ganz kurios: direkt aus dem Astholz. Sie haften reif auch noch wochenlang am Holz.
Unreife Beeren sind grün, färben sich später zu mattorange. Die Beeren sind richtig reif, wenn sie glänzen.
Die Pflanze ist mit der Brennessel verwandt, „brennt“ aber nicht. Von den Brennesselgewächsen gibt es Stauden, Sträucher, sogar Bäume, die 10m hoch werden (Australien).
Die Suhosine ist ein schnellwachsender Strauch mit Verbreitung in Ostasien und Japan. Die Pflanzen sind nicht winterhart. Wir überwintern sie unkompliziert: nicht warm, sondern knapp über 0°C, also frostfrei. Wenig gießen im Winter. Die Pflanzen verlieren dabei die Blätter wie jeder andere Strauch und treiben im Frühjahr willig wieder durch.
Bei Überwinterung bei höheren Temperaturen ist die Pflanze auch im Winter grün, denn am Naturstandort ist sie ebenfalls immergrün. Sind die Pflanzen zu groß - und sie wachsen wirklich schnell - wird Radikalrückschnitt gut vertragen. Das alte Holz dabei weitgehend verschonen, wir wollen im nächsten Jahr ja wieder die ungewöhnlichen Beerchen ernten.
